About Ellenberger Park

Established in 1903, Ellenberger Park is a 42-acre community park which boasts a seasonal swimming pool, two playgrounds, a shelter, sand volleyball court, multiple tennis courts, pickleball courts, and an indoor space complete with a full-size rink and multipurpose rooms available to rent. Ellenberger Park, once known as Jameson Park, is located 5 miles east of downtown Indianapolis in northern Irvington. Famed urban planner and master landscape architect George Edward Kessler was hired to develop the area as part of the citywide park system in the early 1900s and added a specific character to Irvington with his construction of the boulevard along Pleasant Run.

In 1930 a pool was opened on the site of Ellenberger’s current swimming pool and in 1962 an ice rink was installed. The ice rink was decommissioned in 2009, but the space is still utilized today by hockey, lacrosse and futsal groups alike from around the city. The rink space is also home to Indy Parks’ annual special events and day camp. Through the years Ellenberger Park has proven to be a place for residents to socialize, exercise, and bask in their love of nature.
